Clinical Evidence Evaluation
As a Forensic Legal Nurse Consultant, I bridge the healthcare and legal arenas by evaluating medical evidence in criminal and civil cases. My expertise includes sexual assault and abuse in adult and adolescent populations, intimate partner violence, non-fatal strangulation, assault-related injury, and elder abuse. I assess the consistency between documented injuries and reported history, clarify mechanisms of injury, and provide expert insight that strengthens legal strategy.
How I Evaluate Evidence
* Medical Record & Document Review
I examine medical records, police reports, EMS documentation, and other relevant materials to evaluate whether the documented clinical findings are consistent with the reported history and sequence of events. This includes identifying omissions, inconsistencies, and deviations from expected clinical or forensic practice.
* Injury Analysis & Causation
I evaluate the reported mechanism of injury, timing, and circumstances of injury in relation to the documented clinical findings. This includes determining whether the injury patterns are consistent with the described history of events.
* Evidence Collection & Documentation Review
I evaluate forensic evidence and clinical documentation in cases involving sexual assault, intimate partner violence, nonfatal strangulation, assault-related injury, and elder abuse. My analysis examines the quality, completeness, and accuracy of the documentation, identifies consistencies or discrepancies within the record, and assesses for potential deviations from established clinical and forensic standards of care.
* Case Strategy Support
I provide a medical-forensic perspective that strengthens legal arguments by clarifying the clinical significance of the evidence. I identify potential deviations from standards of care, explain injury mechanisms and medical terminology in clear, accessible language, and highlight how the medical findings support, challenge, or complicate the case theory. This analysis helps legal teams understand the evidentiary weight of the clinical record and refine their overall strategy.
